the Winter Solstice (Dec 21β22) is the most important day of the year at Stonehenge.
Hereβs what you should know:
Significance: The stones are aligned with the sunrise on the shortest day of the year. For thousands of years, people have gathered here to celebrate the βrebirthβ of the sun.
Atmosphere: On the solstice, English Heritage opens the site early in the morning (usually around 7:45 AM) so visitors can enter the inner circle of stones β something normally restricted. Druids, pagans, travelers, and photographers all come together. Itβs very atmospheric.
Crowds: Itβs one of the busiest days at Stonehenge. Expect large crowds at sunrise, but if youβre visiting later in the day (as per your Windsor β Stonehenge β Bath plan), youβll still feel the energy of having been there during this ancient milestone.
