Day 5 – Wed, Dec 24 – Bath → Conwy, Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿⛰️

• 🚗 Morning - Depart at 7:30-8:00 am!

  • Check out of your Bath apartment.

  • Begin the long, scenic drive north to Wales.

  • * Make a stop to fill the cooler with groceries for Christmas dinner today!

  • ~5 hour drive (340 km) → Put on a Christmas playlist and enjoy the journey!

  • OPTIONAL -  detour via Ludlow Castle, a beautiful ruined medieval fortress surrounded by a charming market town. It will add 30 minutes of driving but break up the journey with a castle walk.

🏰 Midday Stop – Ludlow Castle

• Stroll the castle grounds (approx. 1–1.5 hrs). Great photo stop and leg stretch.

• Grab a light lunch or festive snack in Ludlow’s picturesque town square (several bakeries, pubs, and cafés open).

• 🏰 Late Afternoon (~3:00 PM) - CRITICAL TIMING

  • Arrive in Conwy. Check into your holiday home on 8 Watkin Street.

  • IMPORTANT: You must be settled in by this time. Everything will start to shut down early for Christmas Eve.

• 🌙 Christmas Eve Activities (Limited & Pre-Booked)

  • Short Walk: Unpack and then take a short stroll to see Conwy Castle and the harbour lit up for the holidays. The exterior views are magnificent at dusk.

  • Find the Smallest House: Walk along the quay to see this quirky landmark.

• 🍽️ Dinner: Pre-booked Christmas Eve dinner at your accommodation or a local pub. This is non-negotiable; you will not find a table without a reservation.

• Conwy's medieval town walls are among the finest and most complete in Europe.

• The castle was built for King Edward I in just 4 years (1283-1287) as part of his "Iron Ring" of fortresses.

• The smallest house in Great Britain is on Conwy's quay. It's just 1.8m wide and was lived in until 1900.

Day 6 – Thu, Dec 25 (Christmas Day) – Relaxing in Conwy 🎄🏰

• Wake up to a cozy Christmas morning in your holiday home.

• Prepare a special breakfast: Welsh cakes, eggs, coffee or tea.

• Optional family walk: Stroll along the Quay or around the town walls (great photo ops with quiet streets).

• Nearly all businesses and restaurants will be closed.

• Enjoy a homemade Christmas lunch or pre-ordered meal at your Airbnb.

• Take a brisk walk along Conwy town walls – a full loop takes about 45 minutes and offers amazing castle views.
  
  

🏰 Late Morning (~10:30 AM)

• Visit Conwy Castle (check Boxing Day hours – some years open late morning). Explore its towers and battlements.

• Walk through Plas Mawr, the best-preserved Elizabethan townhouse in Britain (check opening status).
  
  

🚘 Afternoon Side Trip – Llandudno (~15 min drive)

• Classic Victorian seaside town with a long pier and festive lights.

• Walk along the promenade or drive up the Great Orme (weather permitting) for views over the Irish Sea.

• Optional: ride the Great Orme Tramway (seasonal hours apply).

🛑 Stop 1: Smallest House in Great Britain – Conwy Quay (revisit or photo stop)

🛑 Stop 2: Penmaenmawr Beach Viewpoint

🧭 About 15 min from Conwy
🌊 Beautiful coastal stop with beach views and a great place for a short stroll or drone shot if you have one. Optional coffee break.

🏰 Stop 3: Caernarfon Castle (UNESCO) – ~11:00 AM

🧭 Drive ~35 min from Penmaenmawr
⏱️ Recommended visit: 1.5 hours
💡 One of Wales’ most iconic medieval castles. Massive structure and great views across the Menai Strait.

🛣️ Return to Conwy – ~5:00 PM

Optional dinner on the way or back in Conwy depending on what’s open.
